Visitor Check-In
All guests, including parents, must present a driver’s license or government-issued photo ID at the front desk and receive a visitor ID. Doors remain locked except during lunch.
Friends and former students may not enter without official business. Unwelcome visitors are trespassing and may be prosecuted.
Parent and Prospective-Student Visits
Parents wishing to visit a class must notify the teacher before requesting the visit and obtain administration approval. Obtain a visitor pass from the front desk.
Students considering future enrollment may arrange a visit to learn about educational opportunities and school climate. First make an appointment with a counselor or school staff member, who will discuss information and arrange the visit. Approved visitors must carry their visitor pass at all times.
Emergency Preparedness
AVHS practices four emergency responses. Follow staff directions during a drill or emergency.
Evacuation
During class, follow the posted classroom exit route with your class, move away from the building and stay clear of emergency vehicles. During passing periods or lunch, use the nearest available exit and move to the grassy area at the far east side of the lower parking lot. Wait for an administrator’s all-clear before returning.
Lockdown
A lockdown is used when a serious threat makes evacuation unsafe. Staff lock doors, turn off lights and move everyone out of view of hallways and windows. During passing periods or lunch, go to the nearest classroom or multipurpose room. An official releases staff when the situation is clear.
Secure Perimeter
For an outside threat, perimeter doors and grounds are secured while routine activities continue.
Shelter in Place
For a tornado, hazardous-materials situation or similar event, students and staff shelter in place and follow announced directions.
