Homework Philosophy
Homework provides independent practice of classroom skills and extends course content. It should accelerate learning and maximize instructional time. In class, teachers combine direct instruction, active participation and guided practice, including hands-on projects and cooperative learning. Students have time to begin homework while teachers observe and correct practice.
Purpose and Implementation
Homework builds responsibility, time management, skill practice, problem solving and lifelong learning. It encourages students to use varied sources, learn independently and prepare for college.
Assignments connect to Colorado Content Standards and the course’s scope and sequence. Teachers avoid busy work, consider learning styles and provide flexibility to prevent students from being overburdened. Incomplete homework is communicated to students and parents.
Parents oversee homework completion. Work assigned for home, or unfinished during the school day, is available in Schoology.
Late Assignments
Students must complete and submit assignments by each teacher’s deadlines. Late work may be subject to penalties described in the classroom expectations published at the beginning of each semester.
Makeup Work
Students must obtain and complete work missed because of an absence. Teachers publish makeup-work timelines in their classroom expectations at the beginning of each semester.
Tutoring
Students who need help mastering course material are expected to seek and participate in tutoring each semester. The school advertises tutoring opportunities, which may be offered after school and sometimes on weekends. Students can use these sessions to finish required work. Failure to complete required work may result in an Incomplete or No Credit for the course. Contact your teacher or counselor for available support.
