Mr. Sudduth and Ms. Ahrens started Fitness Club in the high school basement where donated fitness equipment has created a work out space for staff and students thanks to Mr. Tiernan, our PE teacher. The club meets after school from from 4:15 to 5:15pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  This club gives students time to work out with guidance and safety protocols in place. Here’s what Ms. Ahrens had to say about it, “Mr. Sudduth and I started Fitness Club as a space where students can work on their lifting abilities and find a healthy activity which helps with their mental health. Many of our students have shown interest in working out but didn’t have the means to do so. This club gives students the space to work out and allows them to get guidance on their technique.”  Now, let’s see what a few students have to say about the Fitness Club!  The students I spoke with, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that participating in the club has helped them perfect their squatting technique, as well as giving them a space where they can get stronger.  Another student told me that Fitness Club has provided them a conveniently located gym since it is right here on campus. We have heard from Ms. Ahrens and a few students, now it’s time to hear from Mr. Sudduth.  He has a vision for Fitness Club that gives students a convenient area to work out, “Mental health leads to physical health, physical health leads to emotional health, which then gives us improved mental health!”  Mr. Sudduth also says that he hopes this will bring NOP and AHVS students together more often.  He wants to expand the Fitness Club so we will have more students together and, in time, perhaps we can expand what Fitness Club can offer.  So, now you know all about Fitness Club!
